Fish River Sun is renowned for its delicious food served from its main restaurant The Wahoo. The restaurant has a buffet or a la carte menu for dinner. The buffet is a generous offering of superbly spiced aromatic casseroles, an extensive meat carvery, steamed garden vegetables, freshly made salads and mouth-watering desserts.
The superb 18-hole Gary Player designed golf course sets the tone, with its unique challenges presented by the natural landscape, including several drives across the Old Woman's River, the quirkily-named historic watercourse that is a feature of the landscape. The course is rated among the top 20 in South Africa and is regarded as a ‘must play’ by golfing authorities.
The golf club house, The Kontiki, is the entertainment hub of the resort with a big screen that is supplemented by ten television sets to catch all the sporting action. It also has a pool table, dartboard and an adjacent lounge area that can be used at leisure. A popular snack station is open most of the day in the Kontiki Bar.
Visitors don't have to go far for their pleasure when staying at the Fish River Sun. Birdwatchers are enthralled by the huge diversity of bird life. Of the 132 species, some of the most eye catching are the Malachite Sunbird, the blue billed Firefinch, Sacred Ibis, Knysna Loerie, and the giant Kingfisher. The natural fauna also include small mammals which have made the estate their habitat. They include hedgehogs, vervet monkeys, black-backed jackal, duiker, bushbuck and steenbok. Among the reptiles are boomslang, rinkhals and the Cape cobra. Even the planting at Fish River Sun is notable with indigenous species providing lush gardens full of seasonal colour.
Kids are a priority for members of the Fish River Sun staff and they come to the resort for the time of their lives. Kamp Kwena, the special kids only club for children who visit Sun International resorts is special fun at the Fish River Sun with the outdoor adventure playground right next to the Mini Golf. There are games, videos and supervised care.
